Description

Peatland is located in the eastern part of Hiiumaa, 11 km southeast of Kärdla and situated in the plane area. The main part of the peatland has been cultivated, and over time the thickness of the peat layer and also the area of the deposit have decreased as a result of peat mineralization. 1972 studies show a decrease in area from 1318 ha to 679 ha (Allikvee, 1972). The thickness of the peat layer is less than 0.9 m. The decomposition  of peat is 60%, mainly wood peat,  ash content is 9.7%, pH 4.8. It is recommended to leave the peatland in its current state. It does not belongs in the Ministry of the Environment list of peatlands suitable for peat extraction (Regulation no.  87; 27.12.2016).
