Description

The peatland is located in the western part of Hiiu county, in the Kõpu peninsula. The Kõpu-Kõrgessaare road is 0.6 km south of the deposit. The peat formed by paludification, feeding on groundwater. The peat lies on the sand. The wooded mire spreads in the Kõrigu peatland. The area of the peatland is 35 ha, of which 12 ha is a peat deposit; 0.02 million tons are economic probable reserves of well-decomposed peat. (Orru, 1995). Peat  consists of moderately decomposed (28%) grass peat. The basal layer is well-decomposed (40%) wood peat with an ash content of 12.6% and a moisture content of 87%. The thickness of the deposit is 1.30 ... 1.50 m. Peat is characterized by a higher content of microelements (Zn, Cu, Mo, Pb) (Orru et al., 1988). The bog is suitable for cultivating  grassland. Not included in the list of usable peatlands prepared by the Ministry of Environment (Regulation no. 87; 27.12.2016).
